The 78th running of the oldest event on the Mount Gambier Cycling Club's calendar, The Bailey Memorial was held on Sunday 1st August. In windy and wet conditions that some considered the worst in recent memory, recently inducted life-member Rob Mann took first place honours while also posting the fastest time of 1:22:24 over the 50km course. Bruce McLaughlin took second with Matthew Opperman, third.

With a start of 24 riders, 21 made it home in what was a fantastic effort by all the finishers, especially considering a majority of the course was into strong cross and head winds and heavy rain.

The next club race will be the 34km Tantanoola Hotel Pub Series 6 race held on Sunday, 15th August 2010.

Bruce McLaughlin today claimed his 2nd consecutive Mount Gambier Cycling & Triathlon Club Time Trial Championship.

Held at Glencoe, Bruce finished the 22km course, which included the Range Hill more than a minute in front of his nearest rivals; Tim Koopman 2nd and Stuart McKinlay 3rd.  

Held in perfect conditions, his time of 36 mins 44 seconds was also 6 minutes faster than his winning time last year which was held in poor conditions and 1km longer.

Was the time good enough to also claim handicap honours ?  This will be revealed at presentation night on Saturday 4th September.

Now that we are about to embark on the major part of our road season, I would like to remind all riders as to the requirement to adhere to the Cycling Australia Technical Rules and Regulations.

In particular I would like to point out the crossing the white line in a sprint is not permitted and future  cases of this will be penalised via relegation to the back of the group and a possible fine imposed as per the guidelines which state: -

After a 3 week break, club racing returns this week with the 36km Kalangadoo Hotel Handicap.  This is race 3 of the Brian Saffin Memorial Series and race 2 of the Pub Series.

Start time 10:00am.
